Introduction

This is the current version of the bibliography of the Soqotran Archipelago that has been compiled at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh and has been made available for use on this website. It is largely based on a bibliography compiled by Dr. M. Gwynne who had kindly made his work available to the RBGE.

There are now just over 1,100 references in the bibliography but it is still growing with different authorities submitting new references and corrections. It is intended to publish the bibliography in printed form in the near future and so we would welcome any contributions you may have as soon as possible. The pages here will be updated as new material arrives.

Please read the notes below concerning browsing and submitting new records and corrections.

Browsing

The references are arranged alphabetically by author. Clicking on one of the letters on the left of the screen will display the corresponding section of the bibliography.

Entries have also been classified by subject. Clicking on 'Subject Listings' on the left will display a list of subjects. Clicking on a subject will display a subset of references that handle that subject. References may appear in more than one subject listing.

Downloading

If you would like to view this data off line you may download all the bibliography pages and view them on a local machine. Please follow the instructions below.

Check that you have a machine to run it on. You should have a Windows95/98/NT machine or better with a Web browser such as Netscape 3 or InternetExplorer 3 or later.

Click on 'Download' below to get the file.

    Double click on the file.

You will be asked to choose where you want to put the bibliography. Select a folder. The default will be the one the file is in.

Choose UNZIP and a directory called 'Biblio' will be created.

To view the data double click on the file page01.html in the folder Biblio or, if nothing happens when you do this, open it using the File|Open menu on your browser.

To remove the bibliography from your disk simply delete the directory 'Biblio'.

Click here to Download the file.

Submitting New Entries

You may submit new entries to the bibliography in several ways.

Small Numbers of Additions

If you have only a small number of additions (less than about 10 or so) you may:

  • Use the submissions form provided. Just click on "Submit" above.

  • e-mail them to me

  • Post them to me at :- John Farrar, 2 Marsh Lane, Hayle, Cornwall, TR27 4PS, UK.

If you are not using the submissions form your entries should be formatted to look as much like those in the bibliography as possible but at the end of each reference please also include a list of the subject codes for that reference separated by commas. The subject codes are given on the subject index that is shown when you click on "Subject Listings" above.

Larger Numbers of Additions

If you have larger numbers of additions (many more than 10) and they are already in digital form then I would be grateful if you could submit them as a file that I can process automatically. Please contact me for details of what format the file should take.

Corrections to Entries

Please submit corrections using the form (just click 'Correct' above), by e-mail, fax or post. All the references in the bibliography have a code number shown in square brackets at the end of the reference. If you are submitting by e-mail, fax or post you only need to include this number plus enough information to enable me to process your request.
